About NeedleCalm™ | Australian-Made, Nurse-Founded Needle Anxiety Device

One nurse. One injury. One idea that changed everything.

Australian-made needle anxiety device · Founded by a registered nurse · TGA-listed

NeedleCalm™ is an Australian-made needle anxiety device founded by Lauren Barber, a registered nurse from Sydney. In 2016, a needle-stick injury left Lauren with seven stitches — and a question she couldn’t shake: why is there no simple, effective way to help people through needle procedures?

Lauren spent years watching patients — children and adults alike — dread, avoid, and suffer through something that should be routine. The fear was real. The gap in care was real. And nobody was doing anything about it.

So she did. In 2021, NeedleCalm launched across Australia and New Zealand. Since then, clinicians and patients across both countries have trusted it — and Lauren remains the nurse behind every decision.

NeedleCalm was built by a clinician who lived the problem first-hand, and knows that needle procedures should never be a barrier to care.

Drawing on over a decade of frontline clinical nursing experience, Lauren designed NeedleCalm to address what she’d witnessed throughout her career — patients avoiding care, clinicians managing distress, and a gap nobody was filling. She built the solution herself.

Today NeedleCalm is TGA-listed and recognised with multiple national awards. Lauren remains the clinical heart of the company.
